The Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel is a detergent specially developed for maintaining and restoring the performance of waterproof footwear. Whether for hiking boots, trekking boots or everyday footwear with a membrane, this highly effective cleaning gel removes dirt in depth, reactivates the water-repellent impregnation (DWR) and restores breathability. It's easy to apply by hand with a brush or sponge. The gel is non-flammable, PFAS-free and environmentally friendly - ideal for those who look after their outdoor equipment conscientiously.

Waterproof and breathable footwear only works properly when the outer layer doesn't absorb water. As soon as the outer material or leather becomes soaked, breathability can decrease dramatically - moisture is trapped inside, feet become damp and cool down faster. This is exactly where Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel comes in: it removes the dirt that attracts water and reactivates the existing DWR layer, causing the water to form droplets again and flow down the surface.
Especially with active use - hiking, mountaineering, working outdoors or simply walking in the rain - dirt particles accumulate in the shoes, which absorb water and reduce the effectiveness of the impregnation. Regular cleaning with the right product is therefore essential. Conventional shoe detergents often leave hydrophilic residues that cause the opposite effect. Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel has been developed precisely to clean waterproof and breathable footwear effectively and gently, without leaving residues that impair performance.
Another great advantage: it's not always necessary to waterproof again after each cleaning. In many cases, cleaning with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel is enough to restore water repellency. Only when water no longer forms droplets on the surface is it recommended to apply a suitable Nikwax waterproofing agent.
