Anyone who spends time outdoors knows the problem well: waterproof, breathable footwear that suddenly starts to feel damp inside. In most cases, the cause is simple - the outer material gets soaked. When the fabric or leather absorbs water, the moisture vapour can no longer escape, causing your feet to become damp and cool down more quickly.
This is where Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof™ comes in. This waterproofing has been specially developed to renew the water repellent treatment (DWR) on combined fabric and leather footwear. Water flows back over the surface effectively, without softening the leather or compromising the waterproof membrane. At the same time, breathability remains intact - an essential factor for comfort when hiking, trekking, travelling or everyday use in wet weather.
Application is simple and practical: the product can be applied with a sponge or spray directly onto wet footwear and develops its effectiveness during air drying. The water-based formula is non-flammable, PFAS-free and represents a safer and more sustainable alternative to traditional aerosol waterproofing.
For best results, Nikwax recommends pre-cleaning footwear with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel™. Dirt and residue left behind by conventional detergents can impair the DWR's performance - regular cleaning helps to significantly extend the life and functionality of the shoe.
